Panerai Luminor Pre V 5218-201A

Panerai’s first model released for public consumption was this Luminor Ref. 5218-201A and the Mare Nostrum Chronograph. Initially the brand planned to produce 899 pieces of this first Luminor, but ended up manufacturing only 677. The dials used on this Pre Vendome reference used a lacquer over the tritium in order to keep it in place. As time passed by, there was a chemical reaction in between this two materials that turned the hour markers into and orange/brown color: these dials are known as “non-matching”. So none of these dials have aged the same, and the most desirable are the ones that aged with a more pronounced patina.
